I don't think so because that is pretty much what I thought going in as well. I just never got involved in the film for whatever reason. The "meaningful" moments were underscored by rather pedantic music and every one of them was telegraphed by the narration. At least that was my response to it.
Because I like Gary Ross, I'm glad other people are responding differently. The opening weekend was actually pretty promising and even if I don't like this film, I certainly don't want Ross to lose the ability to make them.
