The weekend in review.
I made things, and got a lot half-done.
Ta-Dah!
FRIDAY NIGHT
Monte came over, and I made things. We made mac-n-cheese and hot dogs for dinner while watching Holiday Inn. He then went to bed and I stayed up making things.
SATURDAY
Monte had to work (ick!). But it did give me the opportunity to work on his presents. I got the two prints matted and framed and they look really good. Go me! I also got small gifties done for Pisces to give him at the Solstice Tea.
I had a brief meltdown when Monte made a thoughtless remark about some gifts I was making. For the most part, I am happy and chipper and feeling the festive. But his remark brought out all the money stress, frustration and disappointment attendent upon not having any money during the holidays. He didn't mean to hurt my feelings, and he apologized and felt very bad. During the course of this meltdown (which also included STRESS. Making gifts takes a helluva lot longer than buying them, do you know that?), I tearfully announced that I wasn't going to bother putting up the tree (tree still not up on Saturday morning before xmas! Eeek!). Considering no actual entertaining happens at my place, and Monte has all of his family holiday traditions, it seemed pointless.
Later in the evening, he timidly brought up that he'd really like it if we put up the tree. In past years, he has avoided doing this with me because to him it feels like a "chore". (Putting up the tree with his family is a torturous tradition. No wonder he's avoided it till now.) It warmed my heart that he wanted to do this with me.
So, eventually, we got ready and headed out for an evening of socializing. Solstice tea was fun and I got to visit with loads of people. The only trouble is that when I've been in project mode (still am in, actually) it affects my social skills adversely. I'm disjointed and disconnected. Nothing major, I just don't feel as "with it". Still, I had fun.
We left after a few hours to make a quick stop by another holiday party, this one with theatre friends. It was friendly and fun and I got to see more people I haven't seen in forever. John Command was there and was friendly, but distant. Which is just how I like him. Didn't stay too late cuz Monte was turning into a pumpkin (he had to work that morning, remember).
SUNDAY
Got up fairly early (9am) and put up the tree. I've been doing this alone for so many years, I didn't realize how quickly it could go with another pair of hands! What normally takes me a whole evening (3 hours), took only 1.5 hours. I let Monte handle most of the actual "decorating" part. Amusing side note: Monte prefers a color-themed tree. This is a reaction to the family hodge-podge tree of chaos at his parents' house. I have an assortment of ornaments and generally like a multi-hued tree, but I was happy to oblige. So our tree is red and gold, with silver/white highlights.
Monte then left to go work on presents at his place, and I got back to work on my various projects. Some of which went well, and most of which are half-done. I am helping Barda out with something, and it thwarted me somewhat, but I will beat it into submission this evening and hand off to her.
Then off to movie night. I had hoped to have all sorts of presents to hand off to usual participants (Amanda, Eric, Peter, Chris, Melissa, Lex), but the only one completely done was Lexinatrix's. Who didn't show up. Oh, the irony! I'll have to make plans to see her - oh, darn! Amanda & Eric & Barda and I made flexible plans to get together for present handoffs and to watch FOTR extras over the weekend. And Amanda & Eric got me a Hermey (the Dentist from RUDOLPH) bobblehead. {giggle}
We watched The Ref, one of my favorite holiday movies. Kevin Spacey is sexy.
TODAY
I work all day and then go home and do more projecting. Wrap Monte presents. Go shopping for stocking stuffers.
All of which continues into tomorrow, which I have off. Then I get holiday eve dinner with the Wicks and Co. And then tentative plans to join Wired at her church's midnight mass service. The actual holiday will be spent again with the Wicks for breakfast, and then I will join Monte's family for dinner. And then we will have the evening free for other things.
I have to work Thursday and Friday. But the evenings are blissfully open!
Happy Holidays!
