Weekend details can be found here )

This morning, I got up and used the NordicTrak for the first time. I only had time for about 15 minutes, but it was still enjoyable. And it's quiet enough that I can watch tv at the same time, so I watched a couple of numbers off of my Fosse DVD.

Tonight - shopping with [livejournal.com profile] lexinatrix
This week - figuring out a reception venue
Wednesday - meeting with my attendants. Whee!
Thursday - board meeting
Friday - Geek Prom, and [livejournal.com profile] 433's birthday!
Saturday - many parties and an audition
Sunday - Concomm meeting, Movie Night

Monte will be gone Saturday and most of Sunday to Iowa.

So, one of my co-workers just went to Belize for a week's vacation.

And she was complaining this morning about "the shacks they live in" and the dirt roads and how she didn't even brush her teeth with tap water. When asked about food costs, she said they were still pretty high. Of course, she stayed in the more touristy area.

You know what, lady? Just go to frikkin' Hawaii or Orlando next time. Not all the world lives in sanitized climate-controlled goodness. In fact, most of the world lives worse than those people you saw. If you are travelling somewhere, you should be willing and excited to be someplace DIFFERENT. And if you want old-fashioned, insulated American vacationing, you should stay the hell home.

Travelling can be frightening, disconcerting and uncomfortable. I choose to look on those elements as adding to the adventure, as being part of the story to tell, and being a part of a world I don't normally live in.

She was upset because there weren't good beaches to "lie out". And she didn't want to get in the water because "who knows what all has ended up in it?"

There are roving gangs in Mosul, clean up still to do in Afghanistan, we're eyeing Syria - and she's upset because the beaches weren't nice enough for her tropical spring vacation.

But "the people were nice."
