Two misses
May. 1st, 2003 11:19 amWell, despite best intentions, Monte and I did pretty much nothing last night. We did not attend either of the Movie Nights going on. He did not get work done on the website. I did not do anything constructive.
We ate dinner. We watched the first (best) part of Stargate the movie. And then we watched an episode of "Stargate SG-1". He was in bed before 9pm! Of course, that's probably partially due to the wine we'd been drinking.
I stayed up a bit reading and watching another episode.
I really like this tv show. The episode I watched alone last night and the one I watched this morning while exercising - both of them looked "eh" to me. The descriptions made them sound like bad Star Trek retreads. Instead, in both cases, they were interesting and had "twists" at the end that made them very entertaining and intelligent. More complex than I expected.
After re-watching a bit of the movie - the only thing the movie has going for it in comparison is the production budget. Michael Shanks is much more interesting than James Spader. The character of Colonel O'Neill is alot more likeable in the series than in the movie (where he's a military cliche). Dr. Sam Carter does none of the awful "token female" things that annoy me in other series. Teal'c is your mandatory pseudo-Vulcan, but he's much more than just that and a helluva lot better than the one that was on "Voyager".
Got Stargate on the brain. 3 more episodes and I'm done with Season 1. Who has Season 2 for me to borrow??
Of course, we've got to watch "Sports Night" too. And somewhere in there, I need to watch the "Deep Space Nine" DVDs too.
Oh! Just got another Netflix today! Whee!
