A lot of couples come to this movie
Jun. 9th, 2003 12:22 pmFriday night was the dinner party with the MoneySnakes, which was tasty and fun and low-key and very enjoyable. And I learned a new card game! I'm not sure if I'm good at it though. It plays havoc with my Spades-taught instincts.
Saturday, I slept until 11am. Yay! (Monte was off at work by 9:30 am.) I did the dishes, hopped in the shower and headed to the concom meeting. The meeting was productive, which is really all I ask for. Plus a few laughs, which were also had. I got some nice chatting in after the meeting with
lucyruthe which included horror stories of her place of employment. Deliver us! I got to relate a newfound truth (learned earlier that morning): Mexican polka music is NOT a rhythm that inspires passion.
I had some thoughts about socializing in the evening, but got home and found Monte to be in a hermity mood. So, I read and watched some Strictly Ballroom while he worked on projects. Then we went to the No Pants show. They've definitely been hitting their stride these past few shows. The shows have been well-written, tight and very funny. This one even had character call-backs between sketches!
After the show, I got some good chat time with Joe Scrimshaw which I've been missing, as we talked about the production of Macbeth that he is in. It sounds...troubled. I got some chat time with Adrienne too. And I read an article in the City Pages about Pawlenty and the awful budget cuts before the show that made me growl alot. Like I need excuses to growl about Pawlenty. Here's one more just at the thought of him: GRRR!
Since I had gotten plenty o'sleep that day, I had hoped to get to go out, but Monte up and pumpkined on me, so home we went.
Sunday found us lolling in bed some more. We slept in pretty late and weren't really motivated to get out of bed, so it wasn't until almost noon that I got moving. Then I hurried to get ready and get to the Programming Picnic. I arrived and promptly devoured a cheeseburger. My immediate hunger assuaged, and the safety of others assured, I proceeded to leap into conversation. I actually accomplished alot of chatting about the panels I will be sitting, as well as some heated debate with
petsnakereggie about our favorite topic of disagreement (Matrix Reloaded). I got to pet Gustav (who did not seem overly traumatized). I admired
michaellee's swank grille. I played many silly games with Baz, including "hit yourself on the head with your own feet" which he found very fun. And I got to see in warm baking sunshine for almost 2 hours. Awwww, yeah.
Eventually it was time to head out since I had a date to play Boggle with Lucyruthe and LongHairedGeekBoy and a visiting friend. And lo, the Boggle was had. And verily the Boggle was good. And many words were found, and I did score a 7-letter word. A truly enjoyable afternoon, and good company, and a fun new person met. She should come to CONvergence!
Then off to movie night and Monte's pick of the I've-never-seen-it classic Taxi Driver. I had some profound misconceptions about the film, indeed, so it was good and proper that I was finally shown the error of my ways. A truly terrific movie and not nearly as dark, depressing or psychotic as I had thought. Chewy, I proclaim it.
A bit of chat about Netflix and service issues and the still-continuing joys of it, a bit of convention talk throughout the evening (inevitable this close to the convention). Good to have the mighty
lexinatrix back at a movie night. A lesser-attended evening, but that's always a nice variant.
Today, I have a chiro appointment after work. Thank god. I'm all akimbo. Then I should really honestly try to find a part time job and get started on those CONvergence projects. Bad Windy! No cookie! (I'll probably end up in front of the tv or reading. It's been my default for the last several weeks.)
