I feel better technically: the nasal passages actually allow air through (although there is still congestion so I still get to sound like a plague victim), the dripping has stopped (hallelujah!) and it does seem as if the cough is being productive.

But oy. All I do is yawn today.

Had nice, cerebral rehearsal last night. Talking through the Shakespearean text and the characters and motivations. How the offstage characters relate/mirror/parallel the onstage characters. Where the turning points are in the character arcs. Why Kate would love Petruchio, and therefore why Lilli would love Fred.

All that "acting" stuff that you're supposed to do but rarely find time to address in a musical as you're learning lines and blocking and music and choreography...

Tonight I do some in-depth work with my Lois/Bianca. We're staging her two off-stage solos and doing this should help get the discussion focused on how to play her character. I don't think she quite gets it.

Quick: Recommend a movie or tv character (fairly well-known) that embodies "minx" or "flirt" or "coquette" to you.
I'm trying to find references for the kids that are NOT the play itself (available on DVD) or the movie version of it. I don't want them copying performances, I want them finding inspiration.

I'm looking forward eagerly to the weekend right now...
