and we'd really like to do a roadtrip to DC. Maybe over Memorial Day weekend?...I've got to do some research into that - check cost-of-fuel vs. airfare, admission fees to things, etc. But I've never been to DC and I've always wanted to go!
If you're playing tourist - and I'm sure your friends there would agree with me - the best thing to do would be to leave the car at home and fly into either Reagan National or Dulles. Maybe BWI if you can make the ATA/Southwest connection work for you with somebody picking you up on the other end or the rail connection to DC. From previous experience I think the airfare vs. gas & hotel & food cost is a wash. Anyway, Washington has a great mass transit system, especially if you are playing tourist...God, the Smithsonian alone would eat a week or two if you wanted to see all of it, and there's so much more to see that I'm not sure a month would be enough.
