I sympathize with this, because now that I am an academic advisor at a college, I have to deal with parents calling me after their son or daughter lied to them about their academic status. Worse yet, I can't correct their misconceptions because of laws that require that I don't divulge any student information. So I also sympathize and agree that you're best off just attending to your students and ignoring (grand)parents.
