Hypocrisy

The Terry Schiavo case got yet another twist this weekend when Congress passed an emergency bill that the President immediately signed to keep Terry on life support. I'm not going to comment on our legislators making time for this when we have so many issues facing our country. Instead, I'd like to mock a statement by our Preacher-in-Chief:

"In cases like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life," President Bush said in a statement after signing the bill.

Well, that's a turnabout from the same man who casually sent people to be executed without any real review of their cases.
Oh, except for a "summary" written by our new Atty General Gonzales.

And this is why you should all have your papers in order.

From a story in Salon.com

"...a little-known provision of No Child Left Behind, the controversial landmark education legislation passed in 2001. The provision, under Section 9528 of the law, requires districts that receive federal funding to share students' names, addresses and phone numbers with military recruiters. The Pentagon claims the law is intended simply to ensure that students get the chance to learn about joining the military..."

If true...ick! I'm not even going into the privacy violations of this. And don't start me on how hard-sell these recruiters can be, and the lies - yes lies - they tell to high school students to get them to join up. My twin was a victim of just such a bait-and-switch military scam, promised training that he never got.

Move to party at [livejournal.com profile] theseamster. More chatting and hugging and silly and warm cookies. CHECK.

** The concert was conducted by a British woman who also played lead/solo violin as well. Like concurrently. And the entire ensemble was standing (except for the obvious can'ts of the harpsichord player and cellists). It made for a very different concert experience and a more exciting and involving concert.

I'm now all hyped up to do more house projects! Frost makes house projects fun!
I need to look at my schedule in the next few weeks and figure out how to plan to get these things done while also choreographing and directing the spring scenes. And costuming. And other things...

But tonight is about choreographing. I have to teach the choreography on Wednesday night, so it's important that I do it sometime before then!

So Good!

I'm listening to the soundtrack for "Wicked".
I'm not generally a Stephen Schwartz fan, but damn is this stuff just so melodic and catchy!

And how do you argue with lyrics like:

"What is this feeling, so sudden and new
I felt the moment I laid eyes on you
Fervid as a flame, does it have a name? Yes.....LOATHING!"
