windelina: (Ick!)

I am unmotivated at work. I can hear your exclamations of shock and surprise.
But y'know - it's damned hard to get motivated when you're this relaxed!

And damn, but y'all is prolific. 7 pages I had to go back.

But still no llama.

Friday, I left work at 2pm and took the bus home. Freed my car from tire-repair limbo. Finished stuffing things into my backpack. And then Monte and I drove over to [livejournal.com profile] envoy's house to meet up for convention-carpooling.

My car got put in a garage for the weekend. I'm sure it felt unexpectedly luxurious. Or like it was being punished.

The drive down was uneventful but cheerfully social. Fun music and audio snippets, good conversation. I always prefer carpooling to Supercon. It gets the social started off so nicely.

Arrival was achieved and room acquisition was speedy. Let the convention begin!

I quickly ran into [livejournal.com profile] petsnakereggie who informed me and Monte of a midnight showing of Jaws on the big screen. I was definitely up for that!! I generally hate to take time away from a convention to go out, but I felt I could make an exception in this case. I wasn't skipping out on the al-important Saturday night socializing. I had never seen it on the big screen with surround sound (I adore the score to Jaws). And I guessed (correctly) that there would still be people up and socializing when we got back.

Monte was going to go too, but pumpkined. Others backed out due to inertia. But Barda and Lexinatrix joined in. Whee! The Chateua Quatorze is FAB. But I was denied grilled goodness. Suckage! I really didn't manage to eat anything of substance on Friday. Sad for me. But I get to sit next to Barda during the movie which was VERY satisfying as she had never seen it. The truest test of how good a movie it is - it's still a good movie even after it doesn't scare you anymore. I love the characters and the dialog. Muchly.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. First we had Friday evening. Which consisted of Opening Ceremonies, where I took some fun pictures. And then I watched people play Times Up! Which became almost a meme over the course of the weekend. And I wandered through many conversations. I finally experienced storytelling by [livejournal.com profile] buccaneer. This was one of my goals for the weekend. And the Pig in the Field story made me giggle. Not to mention propositioning Russian pilots. {snort!}

Then it was Four Nifty People and [livejournal.com profile] jklumpp got dragged up there, as did [livejournal.com profile] toadnae. I think. Friday is a long way away now. There was a theme of shoplifting, oddly. Hm.

I didn't actually do much on Friday night except wander and socialize. Which is exactly what I like to do at my Supercon.

One of my goals for the weekend was more serious bonding time with my more outlying friends - the people I know and like but haven't actually "bonded" with yet, or with recently. I think I did admirably on this. I'm terrible sometimes about having shallow interactions in social settings. I get distracted very easily. But I made an effort this weekend, and it seemed to make a difference. Still more work to do on it though.

Of course, it did backfire a bit. I got trapped in a conversation with an acquaintance I've known for years. It was very odd, and decidedly different than other interactions/conversations we've had in the past. Hm.

Monte and I roomed with Cajones and [livejournal.com profile] chebutykin. Which didn't mean we saw that much of them, of course! But they were pleasant roomies, and always delightful company on the few occasions we were all co-located in the hotel room.

After Jaws (boy, my timeline has skipped around. Keep up people!), we returned and found many good conversations still happening. Many were playing Times Up! But more than half were drunk, and therefore stupid. And it went on WAY too long. So, I ended up in Consuite telling stories and hearing stories.

Other Friday highlights:
Markiee and I having a Fosse-showdown. Markiee won.
Markiee making me an alcoholic beverage.
Loads of hugs and waves and happy smiles directed at me.
Lots of compliments on the hair being red again.

I ended up being away till about 5am. Monte had gone to bed long since, but he sure was cute all cuddled up in bed.

NOTE: Lexinatrix has strange catalyst properties on me. Something about her laugh makes me laugh just to hear it. Which makes telling stories with her all the more jovial.

NOTE(longwinded): I am the luckiest girl in the world to have my Monte.
I am very social and flitty. In group gatherings, I rarely stand still for long. Monte not only understands this, he encourages it. He takes care of himself in social gatherings. He finds his own fun. He meets people all on his own and has fun without me and doesn't guilt me for being absent. And when either of us want some reconnectedness, all we have to do is find the other and it's immediately right there.
He is perfect for me.

SATURDAY
Awoke at 9:30am.
What the bloody hell?

THEORY: Early-Riser Syndrome (ERS) is actually transmitted by cooties. So anybody sharing a bed with a person infected with ERS is bound to eventually be contaminated.

Actually, since I hadn't really eaten on Friday at all, I believe my lizard brain woke me up chanting "breakfast, toast, milk, juice, cereal, pancakes, bagels". So, I got up and went and go food. And then I went and got more food in consuite. And told more stories. And laughed. And then Monte came in and reminded me of Glyph's book panel. Eep! I was late. So, I scurried in. I started sitting in the back, and then slowly moved up. It was oddly chilly in the back of the room.

Monte, Birdfigment, Fayde, Kalmn and I were there. Michaellee came in later. It was sparse, but nonetheless enjoyable.

Then I decided to get in the hottub. I couldn't find anyone to join me, so I went in alone. But [livejournal.com profile] envoy happened along, and decided to keep me company by sitting in a deck chair and chatting with me. He exited about the time Don showed up to get in the hot tub. Don and I had about 10 minutes together and then I decided I was done poaching myself.

Upon Chebutykin's excellent recommendation, I had opted for the hottub-nap-shower plan. I left her trying to nap when I went to hottub. And came back to an empty room. Whereupon she entered to make another attempt since her first one (it turns out) was foiled. We settled in for sleepy times. After a brief attack of rampant hoots of laughter that is. Ahhh...laughter is the best way to relax.

Monte woke me after about an hour and a half to have some lunch. Taco John's!! Yay! The food nourished and awoke me and I was ready to face the rest of the convention day.

I headed back to shower quickly and was amused by my spiky hair (caused by napping with hottub-wet hair). So, upon exiting the shower, I decided to recreate it with the hair dryer and some hairspray. The results were enjoyed by all for the rest of the night!! I wonder if anybody got pictures.

I re-emerged. Other things that happened around this time:
- I learned to play mah jjong. I could easily get addicted to this game.
- We ordered dinner. Joy from Waiter's Express is a terrific person!!
- I chatted extensively with Nathan and Beth. Much goodness! I felt like I must have already known them, except I knew I didn't. I love that feeling.
- Monte and JoeChico played a macho video game. That amuses me.
- I had a lovely chat with Lexinatrix and Barda in their hotel room.
- I convinced Tony and Stephanieb to play "Give me the Brain" with me
- Then I finally got to play Times Up! myself with Barda as my partner. Much hilarity ensued. Of special note: Cary Grant's ass is now a clue. And Barda doing the mime for "Antonio Banderas".
- Moneygod is particularly gifted at Times Up!

Ack! It all blurs together!

Dinner arrived and it was very tasty and well-organized. Our dinner huddle consisted of Nathan, Beth, Envoy, Toadnae, LT, Kalmn - and some others I'm forgetting in all likelihood. The Chinese food we got was terrically spicy and tasty. Yay!

Later in the evening, I aimed for achieving a buzz. Glyph proved to be my bartender of choice on this. I don't know what it was that he made, but it was tasty and verrry alcoholic. I ended up playing mah jjong some more with Shoryl and Mike A. and Lex. The "bamboo dance" was established, much to Buccaneer's chagrin. I was feeling particularly silly by this point, so there was usually a dance or dramatic moment accompanying most of my plays. A particular favorite being "The Count" from Sesame Street: "One, One Character! Ah hah hah!!"

They put up with me.

There was some chatting, but no "Sex Talk" as in previous years. No great loss - I prefer my traditions loose and flexible.

I never did get to play Spree! with anybody. Oh, well.

Monte and I made a brief attempt at some alone time, but we were foiled by his hyper-awareness of the rest of the convention being 10 feet away. Hm. Learn something new everyday. So, we snuggled and laughed.

Eventually, he wound up in bed at about 2am. I tucked him in. Whereupon he looked up at me and said (in Forrest Gump voice), "You smell like Chex Mix, Lieutenant Dan"
And then he stopped and got this bemused look on his face and said, "What?"

It's nice to know that even HE thinks he's weird, sometimes.

I had further chatting but went to bed around 3am myself.

And woke up at 9am again.
I wish the aliens would stop controlling my body.

SUNDAY
The day started with snuggling in bed. Monte was nuzzling on my neck. And then I heard, "Oh Sam."
Windy giggles
"Frodo wouldn't have gotten far without his Sam"
Windy stifles giggles with hand since cajones is still asleep
"Samwise the Brave"
Windy snorts

I arose and again - went and got breakfast. During breakfast, politics and world happenings were discussed with my fire by Rhonda, Jklumpp, Weasel_King, and others who I'm forgetting here. Eventually I tore myself away to accomplish one last dip in the hottub. Monte joined me, and then we showered up, packed up, and got out of the room.
Whereupon I played more mah jjong.

I'm hooked.

This time I played with Markiee, Shoryl and ... eep! I'm forgetting his name!

Closing Ceremonies briefly interrupted a hand, but not for too long. I did my best to ignore it, since I didn't want the weekend to end.

Then I hooked onto another game of Times Up! It needed to be a quick one since people were leaving. So only 3 teams. Which turned out to be too few, but ya live and learn. I was going to play with Monte, but he said "I miss Jenni" (since they both know art references). To his regret, I insisted - with grim glee - upon switching with Jenni so that I was paired up with Moneygod. Moneygod is extremely good at this game. And I also suspected we'd be a formidable duo - while watching her in other rounds, I would be able to correctly guess most of her clues even when her partner could not.

I was right. We mopped up. Having three teams helped quite a bit too.

Many left about then, but we stayed and I wound up getting into a conversation about conventions and CONvergence and specific things with Charles. It was very educational. And we now have a potential Emergency Crew for a troublesome department. This excites me.

Eventually, Envoy and Monte drug me away. I got final hugs and goodbyes and then we headed home.

But the adventure wasn't over yet! There was this dipshit in front of us driving back. He wouldn't get over to let us pass. We tried to pass on the right - so he sped up to cut us off! And then he purposefully started pacing other cars to block us! We glared. We mimed calling the police on a cell phone.

What finally worked was when I started pointing and laughing. Men with small penises can't handle that. Monte also says it's because I'm scary. You use what ya got.

We made it home without further incident. Hugs and thanks to Envoy for driving!

I missed Anton and Linda. I was hoping to see [livejournal.com profile] jenx and [livejournal.com profile] cjdoyle. But I got to meet Nathan and Beth, who were terrifically fun and friendly. And I got some nice interactions with others I don't see enough socially, like Pied Piper and JoeChico.

A very successful Supercon weekend.
