Friday night we went out to see "The Boyfriend" at Mounds View Community Theatre. A delightfully frothy concoction of a play. Saw many theatre chums and have brunch plans with Chrissy for this Sunday. Afterwards, we went out to Perkins for a late night nosh and some theatre gossip. An all-around good evening.
Saturday was the day I spent spinning my wheels yet achieving slight forward momentum.
1. The tires.
Friday evening I arrived home and attempted to park. In the process I heard a thunk and then a loud "whoosh". Hunh. I start to drive away and there's a thunking noise. What am I dragging? I look beneath my car and what I am dragging is the carcass of my rear right-hand tire. It got punctured but good. A two inch slash in it. So, I drive it one more block (slowly) to the garage across the street from me, where I happily pay the man $8 to put the toy tire on. After that, I went and found out what I ran over - some steel wire thing, god only knows what. I picked it up and put it in a dumpster. My good deed for the day.
So, Saturday morning, after awaking, and finishing up getting the post mortem notes ready for the next day's meeting, I headed out to get new tires. I needed new tires anyway, and the puncturing was just a catalyst. Getting new tires and an oil change takes almost three hours, did you know that? So, I took a walk, stopped at Dairy Queen, walked some more, stopped in a Subway for real food, read quite a bit, and eventually got underway to do the other tasks that needed doing.
2. I stopped into the office and printed out the post mortem notes. 23 pages long and 7 copies needed - I ain't trying THAT at home, thank you! They'd still be printing next Wednesday!
3. Wheelspinning exercise #2: I drove over to Byerly's to get a brochure on their wedding cakes only to find out that their brochure is exactly the same as the Lund's brochure. *le sigh*
4. Wheelspinning exercise #3: I then drove to Calhoun Square where I was going to pick up a punch pass and my button. Except there was the Uptown Art Fair. YIKE. I'll just park in the ramp to save the trouble.
Eight Dollars?!? Double YIKE. Fine, I'll park illegally since I'll just run in.
Oh. The $3 button is $3.50 at Calhoun Square - "handling fee". And they don't sell the punch pass there, only at the venues (which also means I can't use a credit card, can only buy one with cash). I grit my teeth, grumble about it and leave to go home and sulk.
Monte got home from work and we spontaneously starting tidying and rearranging. And then it was 7pm and we decided to watch a movie -
Little Voice, which was terrifically quirky and cute. And then we valiantly tried to maintain escape velocity to make it to No Pants, but gave in and went to bed.
SUNDAY
I got up later than intended, and therefore skipped out on washing the dishes. Bad Windy! But i did remember all the things I wanted to take to the office, so now they are no longer in our apartment. Yay! Stopped and got some food supplies and was only a little late to the 10am meeting.
The Meeting of Doom.
This is the meeting where the board goes over all the post mortem feedback we've gotten - from the at-con post mortem, from comments, from the concom post mortem meeting. And we also do self-analysis and high-level reviews too.
Is it any wonder it takes 8 hours and we still never actually finish?
This year, we at least got the planning part right - we all remembered to bring food and beverages and we planned on ordering pizza for lunch. That made things MUCH more bearable. It also helps that this year's convention ran pretty smoothly, all things considered. And the problems that were there were OBVIOUS problems, so there was no real argument about whether it needed addressing.
So, around 6pm we finally got out of there. And then several of us stood in the parking lot and chatting for a good half hour or more. And then we finally dispersed - if you can call most of us reconverging on Chez Wique "dispersing". I was still pleasantly full from all the pizza so I didn't really eat much. And the movie was
The Boondock Saints. Oh! How I love this movie! How did I live so long without it?!! I will own it, precious!
( I do have one question: )After the movie, there was chatter as usual. I think we'd all been CONvergenced-out because it was surprisingly con-free. I told of my latest wedding nightmares (Harry Knowles changes the date of the BNAT to my wedding date and I can't go to the BNAT. But my friends all abandon me and go without me.) (I told those present that I would never forgive them if they did that. Not only for missing my wedding when they're the closing thing to family I've really got - cept for Mom - but also because they'd be going to BNAT when I couldn't!) I told of my frustration about my nephew being labelled ADD. And many other things. And then it was after midnight and I finally achieved escape velocity and went home.
I had high hopes of getting to some Fringe shows tonight, but forgot about an Omegacon meeting. So, I'll be doing that instead. But tomorrow...tomorrow, I will Fringe. Oh, yessss. Even if I do have to wear a stupid button.
