I want to see some Darwinism in action
Sep. 26th, 2003 03:04 pmToday, I got asked to help with a task since another secretary was going into a meeting and it needed doing NOW.
What was I asked to do?
Take handwritten notes and type them into Word so that the person could review and make changes and then the secretary would be copy/pasting the text into an email and sending it for him.
Yes - there is someone who does not know how to use email. And apparently refuses to learn. (I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for a second: maybe he doesn't know how to type. Of course, once email and PCs made such a surge, most people learned to at least hunt-and-peck.)
Now, this gentlemen is of a different generation. So, he is used to being catered to by his staff, likely. But exactly when do you decide to stop learning new things? I mean, he's got another couple of decades in him, and he's just not going to learn email. Lord knows what other technology is going to come along that he'll also have to avoid. It must be nice to plan your life knowing that there will always be someone to serve you.
He seems like a nice guy, but good heavens. If you can turn on your computer to read your email, you can bloody well learn how to send it.
