Verrry interesting
Jun. 10th, 2004 10:40 amWell, the principal and a vice principal at Stillwater High School want to meet with me sometime this month. Ostensibly, it's to sign the contract for me to direct "Kiss Me Kate" this fall at Stillwater. (That had been up in the air with their indecision about what they are doing with the theatre program, but apparently they've decided to hire me regardless of other decisions. Excellent!)
Sidenote: I'm a believer that Cole Porter is basic Musical Knowledge. Any kid interested in theatre should be able to hum at least one Cole Porter tune. "Anything Goes" gets done so often, "Kiss Me Kate" will be a nice change. And hey - maybe the English Lit class can tie in by studying "Taming of the Shrew"! At any rate, I'll likely work in a reading of TOTS for the leads, at least. Yes, I take this shit seriously. So, I'm very excited by this. At this point, I have no idea who the soprano lead would be, but I have at least one TERRIFIC gangster.
Anyway, I'm wondering what this meeting is really all about. Karen said they never met with me before (or during) "Guys and Dolls" and they'd like to do that. I'm wondering if this is about the theater program, and my proposal to them. It could be a "no thank you" meeting. Or it could be a negotiation meeting. Verrry interesting indeed. How odd it would be to change jobs abruptly come fall. Lord knows, I'm ready for a new occupational challenge though...
Sewed last night. I'm in a zen state. I am sewing and sewing is me. I don't feel like I'm making any real progress, but ... "just keep swimming, just keep swimming..."
Tonight, Monte and I are going over to the Watchtower to enjoy a messed up double feature and grand JLA companionship.
Tomorrow night, I need to do a quick meet up with our video guy and a bookswap with Lexinatrix and sew. Always with the sewing.
This weekend? Smart you! You guessed sewing, didn't you? I might do a drop by on the Zombiethon (under the excuse of doing a costume fitting on Mr. Jones). I'd still like to get Monte to "Prisoner of Azkaban" but that may not happen for a few weeks yet at this point. So much to do!
In work news, I am down to the last dribbling bits of backlogged work to do. Very soon here, I will have nothing to do. this is nice coinciding with the large amount of CONvergence prep and paperwork I need to do.
I should plan this well every year.
