In the future, I need to be more aware of the fact that after any major project, I need a period of recuperation.
I am desperately desiring Utter Sloth.

I have not the time for utter sloth. Of course, the Sloth slowly approaches and muffles my motivation regardless of all my better instincts. Last night, I got home and read a book for an hour before breaking free of the long, clingy arms of the Sloth.

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed, if I stop to think about it. There's cleaning. Then fixing. Then packing. Then moving. Then cleaning the old apartment. There's CONvergence work: tshirts to order and the volunteer party and the post mortem stuff.
Once we're in the house, there's unpacking and settling in.
And then there's "Kiss Me Kate".

I'm busy until November at this rate. Ack!!

I will concentrate on my small successes instead.

Last night I went to the house and I scrubbed the hell out of what will be Chris's workroom. The place is really in need of alot of soap and water. Walking around barefoot, my feet were black within minutes. Icky. So, I wiped off the ceiling fan (it needs to be replaced, so I didn't thoroughly scrub it). And then I TSP'd the ceiling, the walls, the doors, and a brief swipe at the closet. (The closet walls are so scuffed that it's not going to matter much. Needs a paint job. Well, the whole room does, and that's why I washed the walls - in preparation.)
And I mopped the floor.
And I washed the windows.
And I listened to Prince. I was funky with my bad self.

It was after 10pm, but I was grossed out by the floors. So I did a preliminary mop job (just water) on all the floors upstairs before leaving. They'll need a proper mopping, but at least the first layer of grime is gone.

So, tonight, I am going directly from work to Home Depot for lightbulbs and other small sundries. And then to the house for more cleaning. I'm hoping to finish the upper floor tonight (my workroom, the hallway, the half-bath, and the hallway closet). I can continue to clean next week, if necessary, while Monte starts the painting. I had hoped to have the cleaning done before he got back, but the Sloth pinned me down.

If we get the upstairs done, then we can start moving the really PITA stuff - cuz all that stuff is workroom stuff. Not to mention that the workrooms can act as a staging area for other rooms as well.

The Utter Sloth...

Is found in South America in temparate, rainy regions with loads of leafy vegetation. The animal has a distinct cry "zzzzzzzzGor Blimey! That's the last time I do that THAT Wayzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz"

Often, you can track these arborial creatures by their dertritus of old packing crates, scrap cardboard, empty pizza boxes and crumpled newspaper found near where ever it was that thay moved to in the last couple weeks. Fur colour varies, but common characteristics are dark circles under the eyes, twitchy tendril-like fingers, and listing behavior. Often found in ones and twos, the Utter Sloth is famous for its ability to empty vehicles of objects that are technically bigger than said vehicles.

It totally amazes me that people can live with that much crud on the floors. I like being in socks or barefoot at home, so I can relate to the gwossness of cruddy floors.

I'm sort of in awe of it. I mean, how do you let it get that bad? It didn't LOOK bad, but ew! You'd have to notice.
I have hardwood floors now. I've been there almost three years. It's not like I mop regularly (hardly ever). And my floors aren't that gross (hardly gross at all).

How do they do it??

Am I correct in assuming the previous tenants were either not ready or not willing to move just yet?

If so, I'm suspecting the filthy state of the house is attempted revenge.

Pick up a Swiffer Wet Jet, a couple of refills, and several sets of pads. It's a lot of disposable-ness, but I've been really impressed so far.

As for dirty hardwood floors... you *know* where I live, right? :)
