We got our boiler serviced and maintained last night (we have radiators!).

They guy said we should get a plumber in cuz we need
1. to add water to the boiler (the pressure is low and the upstairs won't get heat come winter!)
2. to replace two valves on the boiler

Adding in the bathroom pipes, that's three things I need a plumber for!

******************

Just seen in the elevator: a suit with his hair all pomaded and slicked back like my grampa used to wear it.
Who wears their hair like that these days??

Why was I in the elevator? I was fetching morning snackies. Today I have a salted nut roll!

******************

For my morning bath today, I added bubbles. Why didn't I think of this before? And I played a Ben Folds cd. It made getting ready to come to work almost...indulgent!

******************

We had planned on going out to see Dave's Fringe show last night, but we got to working on the house, and it was cold, and we were both...feh. So, we didn't make it out.

Instead, we:
- put up the shelves in the closet on the main floor
- put up the cabinet in the bathroom
- unpacked all our bathroom stuff and put it where it belongs
- hung the mirror and the picture of Gizmo in the bedroom
- finished scraping the paint off the bedroom windows
- had mac'n'cheese for dinner
- did more laundry
- got one of the bookcases to its proper place (four or five more to find homes for)

And in a last-minute burst of productivity, I:
- put up the clothes rod/shelf units in my closet!
- hung up all my hanging clothes and costumes!

I now have Eight Feet of clothes rod and shelf above it! (Previously, the walk-in closet was poorly utilized having only one rod and it being diagonal across one corner of this HUGE space!) I should be able to fit my tshirt shelves and my dresser in the closet, as well as my fabric bins and all my shoes!

The dresser may end up in the actual room, actually. I have alot of costume and fabric bins...but all my shoes will fit! (For someone so unfashionable, I sure have a lot of shoes.)

Tonight is the final wrap up of the post-mortem process for CONvergence 2004 and probably the beginning of planning for next year. Whee! And I have a chiro appointment directly after work so I'll be all recently crunched and aligned.

If you are in need of a good plumber, I can recommend my uncle. Or Nate and Betsy have one they like, too.

I will gladly take recommendations! Even if I end up doing-it-myself, it's nice to have recommendations on tap for future emergencies/fuck-ups.

McLellan Plumbing, 763-537-8603. Tell him DeNae recommended him, as he generally doesn't work your neighborhood without knowing the client.

Mmm... Salted nut roll. Is there anything more savory than the confections from the delightful folks at Pearson's? Damn you for making my mouth water at this early hour.

I'm assuming you've seen "Punch Drunk Love" from the above quote:

shut up Shut Up SHUT UP!!

I think I also need another salted nut roll...
or maybe Chex Mix.

Actually I haven't. I've been curious about it, though.

I quite like it. Own it, in fact. So, at some point when we actually have everything in its proper place and all connected, you could come over and watch it.

Or I could lend it to you.

It's ... odd. It made me all warm and fuzzy and romantic and thoughtful, but others might just think, "That's fucked up!"

Adding water to the boiler is pretty easy-- just make sure you do it while the boiler is cold.

As for replacing the valves-- did he say why? Are they leaking?

Monte was the one there while the repairman pontificated, so I don't know why.

Stop the cheese! I don't believe you need a plumber for any of that. Increasing the water level (ie, pressure) of the boiler is a trivial task that needs to be done every autumn. I disagree with marmotOmagic in so much as I find it easier to add water when the boiler is running. (See: I add water until the pressure gauge gets up to where i want it, then I go upstairs and bleed the air out of the radiators; repeat until no more air comes out.)

As for replacing valved on the radiators: I have several bad valves that need replacing (they don't leak, but then, they don't exactly shut off either). Working on old radiator lines probably isn't any fun, but it's worth at least trying to do yourself before you hire an $80/hr fat guy.

And before you say I'm all talk (I'm only 80-85% talk), yes, I would be willing to help.

Let's see...

I get you in my house, you help with weird plumbing things, and I get your company...

Where's the downside to this?!?

I can even treat you to dinner at some appropriate restaurant!

Downside? I think it has something to do with neither of us having any significant free time. ;>

It doesn't sound like your projects are urgent (unless you want to replace those pipes in your bathroom wall before you re-seal it). Anything that can wait until after Burninating Man would be good.

The boiler stuff can definitely wait till after Burning Man. I'd like to know what the heck I"m doing (if anything) about the bathtub pipes sooner so I can patch up the gaping hole in the wall. (The cats think it looks interesting and desperately want to play in it.)

I can make myself be free. The only thing I was doing was Fringing and well, the pipes are more important to me.
