My auto insurance decided to up my premium by over $100 a month.
Ouch.
when I called to ask why, they said it was because I was being charged for a "surcharge" for traffic violation points. Because I have 3 tickets in the last 3 years.
EXCEPT.
The last ticket was in April of 2001. I first got insurance with these guys in DECEMBER of 2001. Where I had to give them all my traffic violation info.
But the lady on the phone says I wasn't being charged for those violations. I then asked why my premium was so high if I wasn't being charged for violations. "Well, you were assigned a high risk category." (Which is true - for my TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS) I asked her why I would have been assigned that if I had NO violations. She "didn't know". She claims that my other extremely high rate was for no good reason than I was "high risk" without any substantiation, but now that they know I have tickets, it's $100 more a month.
Um...WTF?
And the best part? It's too late for me to stop them for taking this money on the first of January. (They say. I may ask my bank to deny payment.) But a competitor (Progressive) will give me a rate that is comparable to what I was paying. Armed with this, I will call back tomorrow and demand to speak to a manager and see if I can get resolution on this.
If I can't - I'm out $100 that I was not budgeting to be out. Just when I thought I was coming out of the financial hole...
Fuggity shite.
