Oh. I feel it.

Yesterday over lunch I made an impulse buy. I'm trying to control my impulse buys, because they only lead to financial stress. But it was a small buy, and I confessed it to Monte. I bought The Silmarillion. Because I'm a big ol' geek. I re-read FOTR last week and was reminded of the flaws inherent in that book. the Two Towers is not surprisingly checked out from the library for the next two months. I wanted a Tolkien fix, and I actually enjoy the Big Sil more than the main trilogy. But I'm a sucker for creation mythologies and long lost worlds and geneaologies. But, you see, I didn't actually own any Tolkien before yesterday.
I'll point out that the trilogy and The Silmarillion have been on my Wishlist forever. And my birthday is coming up.
Because that's the kind of subtle girl I am.
So, I've been reading creation mythology for a mythical world.
After work I bussed home and immediately hopped in the car to meet up with a videography candidate for the convention. He and his wife are big-time geeks and I think we may have hit the jackpot. Excellent!
We met at Pizzeria Uno which I had never been to before. I failed in one of my resolutions (eat at home more often), but succeeded at another one (eat more vegetables) by having a salad with my pizza. I also ate an apple for breakfast this morning - go me! And will be eating leftover pizza for lunch today, so my fall last night is in fact enabling me to succeed on a different goal (bringing lunch from home more often).
After dinner and the meeting, I headed up to Monte's place for his weekly movie night with his friends. This is only the second occurrence. I braved the slightly wet roads that were keeping everybody driving at about 40 mph. Gr. I walked in to find they had just started The Emperor's New Groove! Yay! So, we watched that and laughed alot.
After the movie, the conversation wandered to politics. Monte's friends are more conservative than he or I. So it makes for ... interesting conversation. His roommate Nathan, a conservative and a Republican and a believer in "family values", doesn't actually agree with alot of what Bush has done, but likes him anyway because he thinks he's "sincere". Other talk about divorce and family values convinced me that - at least in this case - conservatives are much more emotional politically than liberals. They don't care about law or right, they just know when something "feels right". it was cute because they would drag in some unrelated point and think they'd scored a point, but I would point out that it didn't actually relate. It didn't get heated or anything, just the usual tension when people don't agree about things important to them.
And I made a point that I could tell made them stop and think. I said that the issues will never be resolved between conservatives and liberals (at least in the "family values" arena of abortion and divorce and other "morality" issues) because liberals believe in an individual's right to choose their behavior, while a conservative wants an "absolute right" that all people have to adhere to.
After that I went home and went to sleep. I've got a new humidifier and I've been using it and it makes me happy to wake up and not have my sinuses feel like the Sahara.
Tonight, I go get crunched at the chiro. Then WoC!! Sweet.
